PoP48 is Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Ltd’s first ever 48hour filmmaking competition.
20 teams representing four Pasifika nations have 48 hours to write, shoot and cut a 4 -6 minute short film. Throw in a given theme, line of dialogue and a prop into the mix; and now your short Pasifika film has just gone from snappy to savvy!
The selected affiliate broadcasters in the four Islands will select 5 teams each to represent their Island nation for the challenge. Viewers will then get to vote for their favourite film when all 20 films are aired exclusively on PBCL platforms in September. The winning team will be announced in September.
The PoP48 champions will receive the coveted title of the very first PoP48hr Film Challenge recipients, plus be awarded the grand prize of a trip to Hawaii for a film masterclass.
PoP48-ers have one weekend to make a short film (think of it as longer than a tik tok but shorter than a sermon).
Teams won’t be given the theme of what they’ll be shooting, the line of dialogue and the prop until the day of the competition. Pacific Broadcasters recruit five teams each after selecting applicants from a locally led challenge. A Challenge Hub is established per nation where teams gather and receive their brief from an official.
Whether you’re a veteran filmmaker or a newbie to the big screen, the PoP48hr film challenge is your time to collab with other Pasifika creatives and take your cinematic skills to the world. You’ll get to see your story on the big screen with a mass audience giving you all those good Pasifika vibes!
What are you waiting for – get your Pasifika crew together and put it all out there on the big screen for PoP48!
