Leaving something in a better way than he found it is the driving force behind everything that Nathan Fraser does.

Leaving something in a better way than he found it is the driving force behind everything that Nathan Fraser, the Executive Business Partner at Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Limited (PCBL), does.

“Within the context of my work, it means supporting the growth of a thriving, resilient Pacific media eco-system and broadcast industry and all the benefits that come with a strong, independent media,” Nathan says.

Funded by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, PCBL builds stronger relationships in the Pacific by providing training and development programs to media, while promoting story sovereignty and free speech in the region.

The 30-year-old of Niuean heritage says his area of expertise at PCBL is tackling novel, complex strategic problems and fostering relationships to build lasting solutions.

Nathan’s first connection to YPL was in 2024 where he spoke at the Sports Leadership Regional Workshop, in Los Angeles.

“Following that, I have been thrilled to be part of a communications team that has worked to amplify the stories of YPL events and people including regional workshops in French Polynesia and Guam,” he explains.

In September, Nathan will build on that experience by joining a 12-strong alumni cohort from around the Pacific to take part in the YPL Alumni Roadshow to the United States.

Designed to bolster US connections with the Pacific region, the Roadshow will visit four regions in the United States, including stops in New York City, Washington DC, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles, from September 13-30, 2025.

The YPL cohort will meet with existing and potential stakeholders, to expand its network, identify and create opportunities between the US and other Pacific countries.

Ahead of the Roadshow, the YPL cohort has been completing a virtual leadership program, looking at collaboration, advocacy, and raising awareness of the Pacific region.

Nathan says he is looking forward to connecting with his Pacific brothers and sisters in the US and learning their stories.

“I’ll also endeavor to create a dialogue between the US-based Pacific diaspora and the Pacific by getting stories back into the region.”

The networking element of the Roadshow is a major draw for Nathan, who says being able to connect with influential people and potential partners in the United States, allows him to introduce new people and organizations to YPL and PCBL.

“I can forge new partnerships in support of our respective missions as well as wave the flag for YPL to help garner continued support for a program which develops current and future Pacific leaders.

“At the same time, I get to collaborate with such a strong YPL cohort, and who knows where that could lead.”

As a proud Niuean having grown up in Aotearoa New Zealand, Nathan says he has felt disconnected from the Pacific at times.

“However, I feel incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to be involved in the region through my work at PCBL and inclusion in the YPL program.

“I would not be in this position without the support of others, particularly the guidance of world-class mentors at key times in my career.

“It is something that speaks to my experience in the Pacific – meaningful, lasting progress is a collective effort and my success stems from my village.”
