Everyone loves an underdog, and Fiji choir Primanavia is winning hearts by sharing their remarkable story in a short documentary, Nothing Is Impossible: The Primanavia Story.
Produced by Young Productions in association with VideoFactory, the film will have its cinematic world premiere at the international, Oscar®-qualifying Doc Edge Film Festival in Aotearoa New Zealand.
As the only film in the Doc Edge Festival lineup produced by a Pacific nation, Director Caleb Young says he is honoured to represent Fijian filmmaking and stories from the Pacific.
“As an emerging filmmaker, I am thrilled that New Zealand audiences will have a chance to see our film with a story that has personally inspired me to fight against the odds and pursue greatness even in the face of difficulty and uncertainty,” Caleb says.
Nothing is Impossible follows Primanavia, and their journey while preparing to attend the World Choir Games, in Auckland, in 2024.
With just six weeks to prepare, the choir faced immense odds, but through intense training and personal sacrifice, the choir pursued a dream to represent their island nation on the world stage.
What unfolds is a moving story of resilience, unity, and the transformative power of music.
It will be almost one year after the contest when Caleb will travel to Aotearoa to attend the Doc Edge Film Festival.
“I am looking forward to attending the film’s screening in Auckland in person on June 25 and 28,” Caleb says.
“I would love to meet anyone before or after the screenings to share more about the film,” he adds.
Caleb is the creative force behind Young Productions Fiji and brings over 12 years of expertise in storytelling through various media.
His passion for capturing the essence of the Pacific is evident in all his work.
He hopes viewers will be inspired by its message and Fijian and Pacific communities especially will understand the potential they have to pursue and achieve greatness.
“One of my favourite quotes from our film comes from the Choir Director Soko, who says, ‘I always proudly say, yes, we’re from Fiji.
“‘It’s a very small country but that doesn’t mean that everything that we do is small.’”
Starting with the Fijian film’s first screening on June 25, at Auckland’s Bridgeway Cinema, the 15-minute inspirational true story of a Fijian choir’s success at the World Choir Games will continue to screen at cinemas in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Along with its selection for one of Asia Pacific’s largest documentary film festivals, Nothing is Impossible is also a finalist for Best New Zealand Short Film.
Winners of the category will qualify and be eligible for Oscar® consideration in 2026.
