Tonga beat the junior Manu Samoa u20 earlier this week with the final score at 20 – 19.
Going into half-time, Tonga was down 16 points with the Samoan side scoring 19 off one converted try and 4 penalties.
The second half saw Tonga battle to score points until the 57th minute when they crossed the line for a try just after Samoa was awarded with two yellow cards. Tonga picked up the pace and scored another three tries unanswered.
This puts the U20 Trophy series score at 1 – 0 to Tonga, heading into the final game this Saturday. The game will held again in Nuku’alofa at Teufaiva Stadium this Saturday at 3:00pm , in what will be an intense rematch. If Tonga wins, they will secure qualification for next year’s U20 Rugby World Cup.
Prior to the first game, the Tonga team’s Manager, Maikolo Fonua, said that they were very excited for the games. “We have lots of promising young players coming up and this [is] a great opportunity for our boys to showcase their talents,” says Fonua “We’re happy to host Samoa, it’s always a challenge to play against each other.”
Tonga Broadcasting Commission will be at the game and providing PasifikaTV with coverage of the match for broadcast across the Pacific.
