Tofā soifua Sabrina Tian

The PCBL team wish Sabrina Tian the very best on the next chapter in her career.

After five years with Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Limited (PCBL), a much-loved member of the team Sabrina Tian is leaving her work aiga, for a challenging new role.

Having joined the PCBL team in 2019 as Head of Marketing and Partner Programmes, Sabrina has established a wonderful rapport with stakeholders throughout the region, with her dedication to PCBL’s mission and vision.

Originally from China, Sabrina first ventured to Aotearoa New Zealand as an international university student and says life has been an amazing journey ever since.

Her time at PCBL has been a huge learning experience, from a team who is truly passionate about empowering Pacific peoples, through its media and broadcasting training workshops and advocacy of story sovereignty.

“The team at PCBL has a meaningful impact on the Pacific region by fostering a strong sense of collaboration and support among Pacific broadcasters,” Sabrina says.

“Everyone at PCBL genuinely cares about empowering local broadcasters, sharing resources, and working together to overcome challenges.

“By seeking solutions and exploring opportunities as a team, PCBL strengthens the resilience of Pacific media, ensuring vital stories and voices from the region continue to reach wider audiences.”

Sabrina adds there been challenging moments throughout her time at PCBL, including the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“During the pandemic, I saw so many talented Pacific broadcasters and incredible stories from the region which we couldn’t share with the wider global community due to travel and other restrictions – it was difficult to witness such rich content and creativity limited by circumstances beyond our control.”

On the flipside, there have been far more highlights, including being part of the annual Pasifika TV training programme and running it, despite challenges like COVID and travel restrictions.

“Even with these hurdles, we never missed an opportunity to support the region, adapting each year to ensure our training reached and empowered broadcasters across the Pacific.”

Sabrina is preparing to take on a new role Chief Operating Officer at Elika Consulting Group (ECG) New Zealand, a consulting firm specialising in strategy engagement and evaluation.

“As COO I’ll be managing a team of professionals and overseeing the administration and operational functions of the firm.”

While realising the opportunity in front of her, it is bittersweet leaving a team who have become family, Sabrina says.

“I will miss everyone in this incredible Pacific family.

“I’ve met so many inspiring people whose passion for the Pacific and commitment to their work constantly reminded me why I love what I do.

“Working alongside individuals who love and care about their communities made each project deeply meaningful, and I learned so much from each of them.

Chief Executive Officer at PCBL Natasha Meleisea says PCBL’s loss is ECG’s gain.

“Sabrina has always been at the heart of bringing everyone together – whether it be internally or with our key stakeholders regionally,” Natasha says.

Her authenticity coupled with sensational organisational skills has made her a huge contributor to where we are today.

“We are proud of Sabrina’s achievements and will miss her dearly and we look forward to seeing her soar to new heights.”

The PCBL team wish you well on your next chapter Sabrina.
