Australia’s Calab Law won gold in the Sol2023 Pacific Games men’s 200m at Honiara’s National Stadium on Friday to go with his men’s 100m title collected on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Australian crossed the line in 20.60 seconds, just ahead of two Papua New Guinean athletes – Leroy Kamau who claimed silver in 21.24 seconds and Daniel Baul who collected bronze in 21.36 seconds.
Law told the Pacific Games News Service that there were a few people who had helped him top the podium.
“Behind my success is me, my coach and my Mum. We all work hard together. I just try to have big goals like making it to the Olympics and I was determined to do well in this competition.”
He revealed: “I just came back from a big injury. I had eight months off and only two months training. I was expecting to run really well because that is how I am, but I did better than what I expected”.
Silver medallist Kamau told the Pacific Games News Service: “I feel okay receiving the silver medal, coming second is okay with me since it is my first Pacific Games”.
Bronze medallist Baul said: “It was pretty exhausting because of the hot weather but it was okay running all the races and winning a medal, which feels really special for my family and my country.
“I feel so proud, standing up there just means a lot because I have been working hard and it is like a payoff for all the work that I have done.”
