Waitangi Day 2026- Kei O Ringa. Waitangi Day first celebrated in 1934 and the first public holiday was observed on the day in 1974. Ceremonies take place in Waitangi and elsewhere to commemorate the signing of the treaty and is regarded as the founding document of the Nation.
