Reflecting on the past year as we face what lies ahead

As we welcome the new year ahead, Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Limited (PCBL) Chief Executive Officer Natasha Meleisea reflects on the events which have left its mark on media in 2024…

Digital transformation, AI, OTT platforms and a shrinking media workforce have significantly impacted traditional media revenue models and how people consume content.

This has driven change globally and has been a challenging year for many of our media partners who have adapted or pivoted to ensure sustainability.

As full integration of multi-media channels becomes imminent, PCBL will search for solutions across every aspect of the media business to support adoption or adaptation for the region.

PCBL is proud to support story sovereignty and local production through the Pasifika On Air and the NZ On Air Pacific Regional Media Fund initiatives.

These programmes have enabled us to support capacity and capability building, as we work closely with each participant on the projects.

Deepening our relationships is at the heart of who we are and how we work, and our team has met frequently with partner broadcasters to ensure we continue to deliver a service that is relevant.

We are not immune to the changing industry landscape and will pivot accordingly to best meet the evolving needs of the Pacific media industry.

PCBL is committed to navigating the challenges ahead for the region fuelled by emerging technology and media consumption habits.

We will embrace our next iteration, focusing on strengthening partnerships and using the tools and tech available, to work smarter, not harder to find solutions that benefit the Pacific media eco-system as a whole.

We will be on the digital transformation journey together!

Finally, we remember the vulnerability of the Pacific to natural disasters.

We acknowledge the loss and devastation, as well as the resilience it takes for each island nation to rebuild their homes and communities.

It is times like these, that we pull together collectively to support each other.

We will always offer our unconditional support and let you know we are here for you to help in any way we can.

We are only a message, call, email or text away…

As tough as 2024 was for many, we look forward to coming out stronger in 2025.
