About us
Established in 2015, Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Limited (PCBL) is primarily funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), with the overall aim to build stronger relationships by supporting media in the Pacific region.
In 2016, PCBL, launched Pasifika TV to deliver free-to-air television content from Aotearoa and the Pacific, while also providing support, training and mentoring to 30 broadcasters across 15 Pacific Island nations.
Priority areas for us include:
- Creating a sustainable media ecosystem – We endeavour to uplift and empower media and content creators, through the provision of a content distribution highway, media platforms, and capability building initiatives to enable a sustainable Pacific media community in the region.
- Ensuring story sovereignty – We provide Pacific nations with opportunities to create and share their own stories, culture, identity and values, while ensuring the survival of local voice.
- Building disaster resilience – We provide disaster response infrastructure and technology in times of national disasters in the Pacific, to ensure restoration of broadcast transmission and continuity of news and public service information.
We achieve goals in these priority areas through our flagship initiatives, including:
- Pasifika TV and associated platforms
- Pasifika On Air
- People of Pasifika 48hr Film Challenge (PoP48)
- News Development Programme
- Technology training and upskilling
- DR response system (in times of disaster)
We value our partnerships
Collaboration and partnerships make the work of PCBL possible, and we are grateful to our primary funder and partner MFAT, our New Zealand and Pacific broadcast partners, producers, and content creators, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), The Pacific Community (SPC), U.S Department of State, and advocates for PCBL/Pasifika TV.
Mahalo nui loa to our potential partners in Hawaii and the North Pacific.
