Held over four jam-packed days, ASB Polyfest has concluded for another year.
Highlights of the annual secondary school’s festival featured rousing performances, and a function with guests including Minister of Foreign Affairs Rt Hon Winston Peters attending, along with Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, the Hon Mark Brown, with First Lady Daphne Brown.
The Cook Islands guests graced the PPTA Cook Islands stage to watch the performance of visiting Cook Islands secondary school – Tereora College.
Others attending the VIP function included Member of Parliament for Takanini – Hon Rima Nakhle, Deputy Leader of Opposition – Hon Carmel Sepuloni and Councillor Alf Filipaina.
ASB Polyfest Director Seiuli Terri Leo-Mauu describes the visit of the Hon Mark Brown as a wonderful addition to the PPTA Cook Islands Stage proceedings.
“He was able to see Tereora College take the stage and received a beautiful welcome from host school Southern Cross Campus and the Cook Islands audience of supporters,” Seiuli says.
Pride and passion came to the fore on all Pasifika and Diversity stages throughout the festival, Seiuli says.
“Nothing beats seeing the passion, pride and joy on the faces of the students as they overcome their nerves and step up onto one of our ASB Polyfest stages,” she says.
“The shouts of encouragement from their families and the hugs and photos after they perform, say it all.”
Her highlight from Friday was showcasing the Pasifika and Diversity student groups at the annual Fiafia VIP event for dignitaries, sponsors, host schools and overseas guests.
“It’s good to see everyone come together and support our young people and the festival.”
The festival concluded with “super Saturday” where all five stages – Cook Islands, Diversity, Niue, Samoan and Tongan – burst with colour and culture at Manukau Sports Bowl.
