The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has deployed a Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and personnel to transport PPE and medical supplies to provinces in Papua New Guinea. The stores were being held in warehouses in Port Moresby but getting the supplies from the capital to provincial areas has been a major challenge for local authorities.

After last year's cancellation due to Covid-19, New Zealand will warmly welcome back its Anzac Day services tomorrow. The cancellation was the first since the day was marked in the early 1900s. The Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio said he was pleased and relieved that New Zealand could again honour the huge sacrifices of the country's soldiers including the Pacific troops.

Organisers of the Pasifika Festival are expecting thousands of people to celebrate its return in Tāmaki Makaurau/ Auckland this morning. Cancelled for the past two years, due to the Christchurch terror attacks and the Covid-19 pandemic, the two-day festival will be held at a new venue, Mt Smart Stadium. Previously it was held at Western Springs.

Creative New Zealand recently announced that Caren Rangi ONZM has been appointed as the new Chair of the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa. Ms Rangi will be the first Pacific Chair and third woman to hold this role of Chair of the Arts Council in its 55-year history. She is a founding director on the Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Limited (PCBL) board, following our establishment in 2015.

The Cook Islands biggest cultural festival, Te Maeva Nui, returning to Auckland after it was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2019, the event was held in Aotearoa for the first time in its more than 50-year history. Organiser Kim Marsters said her team was optimistic the two-day festival would go ahead as scheduled in July.
