About 50 early childhood teachers in American Samoa claim they are owed pay and are "getting the run-around" from the government. The group said they had not been paid for four weeks of summer workshops they attended. Two of the teachers said the HeadStart workshops were federally funded and they were promised payment before the start of the new school year. However that had not happened.

American Samoa's governor has ordered flights between Pago Pago and Hawaii be suspended until September. The last Hawaiian Airlines flight in and out of Pago Pago was in March, as the territory shut down because of coronavirus concerns. That flight ban was due to be lifted at the end of the month, but with Covid-19 resurgent in Hawaii, Lolo Matalasi Moliga has extended the suspension.

A high-level American Samoa delegation is in French Polynesia to hold talks on airline links, aquaculture and climate change. Lieutenant Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and the governor's executive assistant Iulogologo Joseph Pereira are attending the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program meeting, which is looking at the environment and protection of ocean resources.
