SOL23: Guam back on track in men’s basketball 3×3

Guam men’s basketball 3×3 team are back on track ahead of Friday evening’s crunch matches at SIFF Academy after a series of wins on Thursday.

Guam bounced back from a surprising defeat to debutants Palau by notching a convincing 21-16 win over Fiji (in what was a rematch of the Samoa 2019 Pacific Games final). Led by the team’s top point scorer Ben Borja II, Guam continued their impressive form to beat Tahiti 19-17 in their second match of the day.

Fiji responded by posting a big 21-13 win over Palau.

The Fijians will be taking on Cook Islands in their final pool B clash at SIFF Academy on Friday.

New Caledonia are still undefeated, winning all their matches in the men’s category to top pool A.

Fiji’s women’s team also ended Thursday in defeat, falling 21-6 at the hands of Cook Islands after their opening 17-4 win over Marshall Islands.

Cook Islands and Tahiti are top of their pools in the women’s competition heading into what is expected to be an exciting Friday for basketball lovers in and around Honiara.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the knockout stages while the rest of the the teams will play out classification playoff matches to determine their overall rankings.
