Saints Super 4 Netball Championship 2023 comes to Pasifika TV!

Pasifika TV is proud to be bringing you the 2023 Championship through our broadcasting partners across the Pacific! The Saints Super 4 Netball National Championship is an annual competition that was launched in 2021 by the St Mary’s Sports Club in Samoa.

PasifikaTV’s coverage of the championship starts Tuesday 29th August at 11:40pm NZT with Aquilas against Avila – but be sure to check in with your local broadcaster to see when it’s on your channel!

The championship is named after the official house titles and colours at St Mary’s College, which has been an integral part of the sport’s history in Samoa. The four teams, Avila (yellow), Orleans (blue), Aquinas (red), and De Porres (green), are each led by a female coach are comprised of players selected form the six A Grade teams.

The sport of netball was introduced to Samoa in the 1940s by the Catholic nuns, and this year’s Saints Super 4 Championship celebrates 67 years of fostering the sport. The championship reflects an all-female combination of coaches and players, highlighting the important role that women play in the sport’s development and growth.

The first Saints Super 4 Netball National Championship in 2021 was a groundbreaking event for the sport in Samoa, providing an essential platform for selecting elite players to represent Samoa at the national level. The championship continues to be an important event on the Samoan netball calendar and attracts significant support form the local community and families.

It is important to note that the Saints Super 4 Netball Championship is not a fundraising activity. Rather, it is a tournament aimed at promoting the development of netball in Samoa and empowering young women through sports.

The true spirit of this championship is to provide a platform for netball players and coaches to reach their full potential and create pathways for long-term positive effects on Netball Samoa. Any financial support received will directly benefit the players, coaches, and referees involved in the championship, contributing to the overall development of netball in Samoa.
