The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) has announced Fiji and Tuvalu will host important meetings leading up to the COP31 Climate Summit in 2026, held in Antalya, Türkiye.

On Thursday, PIFS confirms in a statement that following a political consultative process, the pre-COP meeting will be convened in Fiji in October 2026, with a followed by a special leaders component to be held in Tuvalu.

“This will build on a special climate event to be convened as part of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Palau in early September,” a PIFS statement says.

A deal was struck last year for the main climate summit go to Türkiye while giving Australia’s Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen a key position in global climate negotiations.

The 2026 UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) will be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from November 9–20, 2026.
